The miniatur donkey, also known as Sardinian donkey originated in Silicy and Sardinia. From there, sometimes also from Aetiopia the first donkeys where imported to America. Meanwhile there live nearly 50 000 of them in the United States, of which close to 40 000 are registrated with the Miniatur Donkey Registry.
